Indian wedding photographers should market three to six months ahead of the dates they want to fill. Couples book the winter season (roughly October to February) during the monsoon and early autumn, and the summer season (roughly April to June) from about January. The quiet months are for building your website, portfolio and content; the busy months are for fast replies, reviews and capturing material for next year.
Below is a month-by-month calendar you can adapt to your region and community, plus what to do in each phase. For the full strategy behind it, read our wedding photographer marketing playbook for 2026.
When is wedding season in India, really?
There isn't one national season: it depends on region, community and each year's auspicious dates. Broadly, the biggest stretch for many Hindu weddings runs from about October or November to February, with another window around April to June.
A few patterns to plan around:
- Muhurat dates shift every year with the Hindu calendar, so check the year's panchang as soon as it's published and mark the densest dates.
- Some periods have very few Hindu weddings in many communities, such as the monsoon months and a stretch around mid-December to mid-January in parts of North India. Exact dates vary.
- Muslim, Christian, Sikh and other weddings follow their own calendars, and South Indian, Bengali and other regional traditions have their own preferred months.
- Destination and hill-station weddings often lean toward the cooler months; beach weddings avoid the monsoon.
Plan your calendar around your city's actual busy dates, not a national average. Look back at your own bookings from the last two years; they're the best guide.
What does a month-by-month calendar look like?
Use the slower months to prepare, the run-up months to advertise and the peak months to deliver and collect proof. This version assumes a winter-heavy business with a smaller summer season.
| Month | Main focus | Key actions |
|---|---|---|
| January | Deliver and collect | Deliver galleries; ask for Google reviews; start ads for April–June dates |
| February | Deliver, then pivot | Finish deliveries; publish wedding stories from winter; promote summer availability |
| March | Summer bookings | Follow up summer enquiries; push pre-wedding shoots for summer couples |
| April–June | Summer season | Shoot; reply fast; capture behind-the-scenes content for ads |
| July | Build | Website updates; new portfolio pages; refresh pricing; plan winter offers |
| August | Launch winter campaigns | Start Meta ads for October–February dates; contact planners and venues |
| September | Scale what works | Increase budget on best ads; push pre-wedding shoots for winter couples |
| October | Final push | Last-minute availability ads; tighten WhatsApp replies; confirm team bookings |
| November–December | Peak season | Shoot; send sneak peeks within days; reduce new ad spend if fully booked |
Adjust it to your region. A studio in Kerala or Tamil Nadu may see different peaks from one in Bihar or Rajasthan.
What should you do in the quiet months?
Build everything that's hard to do when you're shooting four weddings a week. The off-season is when your marketing for next year is really made.
- Website: add three to five new wedding stories, update your pricing page and check that the enquiry and WhatsApp buttons work on mobile.
- Portfolio: pick the weddings that match the couples you want more of and feature those first.
- Content bank: cut 15–20 Reels from last season so you can post steadily when you're busy.
- Offers: finalise collections, the pre-wedding bundle and any early-booking incentive.
- Systems: set up WhatsApp Business quick replies and a simple pipeline so peak-season enquiries don't get lost.
When should you start ads for the winter season?
Start around August to September for October to February weddings, and keep running into October for couples who book late. Many couples shortlist photographers three to six months out.
Five wedding photography ad accounts we manage have generated 1,130 enquiries between them, at ₹58.55 on average. A wedding photography studio in Patna collected 487 conversations at an average of ₹65.26, with its best ad bringing 183 conversations at ₹43.43. These are real figures from our accounts, not guarantees; cost per enquiry varies with city, creative and timing.
Ad costs can rise in the busiest weeks as more advertisers compete for the same audiences, so getting your campaigns tested and stable before October is usually smarter than starting cold in November. Our write-up of cost-per-enquiry results from our wedding photography ad accounts shows which ad formats worked. For setting the budget itself, see our guide to how much to spend on Facebook and Instagram ads in India.
How should you split your budget across the year?
Concentrate spend in the run-up months and pull back once dates are full. There's little point paying for enquiries you can't accept.
| Phase | Approximate share of annual ad budget | Goal |
|---|---|---|
| Build months (e.g. July) | Small | Test new creatives and audiences cheaply |
| Winter run-up (August–October) | Largest share | Fill October–February dates |
| Peak (November–December) | Small to moderate | Fill gaps; promote pre-wedding and next season |
| Summer run-up (January–March) | Moderate | Fill April–June dates |
| Summer season (April–June) | Small | Fill late gaps; capture content |
Treat these shares as a starting point, not a rule. If your summer season is as strong as winter, balance them out.
How do pre-wedding shoots fit into the calendar?
Pre-wedding shoots happen a few months before the wedding, so they create a second marketing window for each season. For winter couples, start promoting pre-wedding shoots around July or August.
They're also a useful way to fill weekdays and quieter weeks before peak season. Our playbook on pre-wedding shoot marketing covers bundles, timing and ads.
What should you do during peak season itself?
Reply fast, deliver sneak peeks quickly and collect reviews and content while couples are excited. Peak season is when next year's marketing material is created.
- Respond to new enquiries within a few hours, even if only to say you'll call later.
- Send five to ten sneak-peek images within a few days of each wedding; couples share them widely.
- Request a Google review alongside the final gallery link.
- Capture behind-the-scenes clips at every wedding for next year's ads.
- Keep a running list of available dates so you can answer instantly.
How do you measure whether the calendar worked?
Track enquiries, bookings and source for each month, then compare against last year. A simple sheet is enough.
At the end of each season, note which months produced enquiries, which ads or channels led to bookings, and where you ran out of capacity. Use that to shift next year's calendar earlier or later. If you're running ads, check cost per enquiry and cost per booking, not just reach.
Frequently asked questions
When do most Indian couples book their wedding photographer?
A common window is three to six months ahead, and some book much earlier for peak dates. Couples marrying on the busiest muhurat dates often book first, so market those dates early.
Should I stop ads when I'm fully booked?
Pause or reduce ads for dates you can't take. You can keep a small budget running for pre-wedding shoots or next season so your pipeline doesn't go cold.
What should I post on Instagram during peak season?
Sneak peeks, short Reels and stories from recent weddings work well and need little time. Prepare a bank of content in the off-season so posting doesn't stop when you're busy.
How early should I plan next year's calendar?
Start as soon as the next year's muhurat dates are published, ideally in the summer. That gives you time to update your website and test ads before couples start shortlisting.
Does the calendar differ for Muslim or Christian weddings?
Yes. Those weddings follow different calendars and preferences, and some couples avoid particular months. If you serve several communities, build a combined calendar from your own past bookings.
