Quick answer: Google has no minimum spend in India, so work the budget out backwards: enquiries you need ÷ landing-page conversion rate × the cost per click Keyword Planner suggests for your area. As a hypothetical example, 30 enquiries at a 6% conversion rate and ₹35 a click needs about ₹17,500 a month in ad spend, plus 18% GST.
Google will accept ₹100 a day or ₹1,00,000 a day; it has no opinion about which is right for you. Agency pricing pages fill the gap with ranges like "₹10,000–₹50,000 a month", but a range without a method can't tell a physiotherapy clinic in Pune from a textile exporter in Surat. This guide gives you the method, in rupees, using numbers you can pull from your own account.
Is there a minimum budget for Google Ads in India?
No. Google sets no minimum spend; you choose a daily budget and can pause whenever you like. Per Google Ads Help, your monthly charging limit is the average daily budget × 30.4, the average number of days in a month. On busier days Google may spend up to twice your daily budget, but across the month you won't be charged more than that limit.
So a ₹600 daily budget means a monthly cap of ₹18,240.
The real minimum is practical rather than technical. You need enough clicks each week on your core keywords to learn which ones bring enquiries. If your budget buys only a handful of clicks a day, the verdict can take months.
How do you estimate cost per click for your keywords with Keyword Planner?
Keyword Planner, free inside your Google Ads account, shows a bid range for each keyword in the location you choose. Use it like this:
- In Google Ads, open Tools, then Planning, then Keyword Planner.
- Choose to discover new keywords and enter the services you sell, such as "physiotherapy clinic" or "knee pain treatment".
- Set the location to your city or service radius, and the language your customers search in.
- Read the "Top of page bid (low range)" and "Top of page bid (high range)" columns.
- Shortlist 10–20 keywords with clear buying intent and note their ranges.
- Use a figure between low and high as your planning cost per click, leaning higher in competitive categories.
Treat these as estimates. Real costs depend on your ad's quality, your landing page, competitors' bids and the time of day. Strong ads and a relevant landing page can bring the actual figure below the estimate.
Check the average monthly searches column too. A keyword with very few searches in your area won't spend much however generous the budget, so a plan built only on niche terms can underspend. And look at how people really search locally: Hinglish phrases and "near me" variants often carry the intent you want.
How do you work backwards from the number of enquiries you need?
Divide the enquiries you need by your conversion rate to get clicks, then multiply by the cost per click.
Monthly ad budget = enquiries needed ÷ landing-page conversion rate × expected cost per click
Conversion rate is the share of clicks that become an enquiry: a form, a call or a WhatsApp message. If you don't know yours yet, start with a cautious assumption and correct it after a month of real data.
All three businesses below are hypothetical:
| Business | Enquiries needed | Conversion rate | Planning CPC | Clicks needed | Monthly spend (before GST) | Daily budget |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Physio clinic, Pune | 30 | 6% | ₹35 | 500 | ₹17,500 | ₹576 |
| Packaging supplier, B2B | 15 | 4% | ₹60 | 375 | ₹22,500 | ₹740 |
| Coaching institute admissions | 60 | 8% | ₹25 | 750 | ₹18,750 | ₹617 |
Then check the result against what an enquiry is worth. The clinic's implied cost per enquiry is ₹35 ÷ 6%, about ₹583. If its break-even cost per lead is lower than that, the fix is a better conversion rate or a different keyword set, not a bigger budget.
How much should a local service business test with in the first 60 days?
Enough for your formula to produce a few dozen enquiries across the 60 days, concentrated in one tightly built campaign. Fewer than that and a lucky or unlucky week can decide the result.
Set the test up like this:
- One Search campaign for your most profitable service.
- A tight radius around where you actually work.
- 10–20 keywords in phrase and exact match.
- Google Ads conversion tracking for forms, calls and WhatsApp clicks, live before the first rupee is spent.
- An ad schedule that matches the hours someone can answer the phone.
- A landing page about that one service, not the homepage.
| Days | Focus |
|---|---|
| 1–14 | Check search terms often, add negatives, confirm tracking fires |
| 15–30 | Pause keywords with spend and no enquiries; rewrite weak ads |
| 31–60 | Compare cost per qualified enquiry with your break-even; decide what to keep |
Our guide to Google Ads on a small budget has more on keeping a lean campaign focused.
Why does a budget spread across too many keywords or cities fail?
Because no single keyword gets enough clicks to prove anything. A hypothetical ₹15,000 a month at ₹40 a click buys about 375 clicks. Spread across five cities and 50 keywords, each keyword gets under eight clicks a month. Concentrated on one city and 15 keywords, each gets around 25.
Automated bidding suffers the same way. Strategies such as Maximise conversions learn from conversion data, and a thin budget scattered widely gives them almost none. Prove one service in one area, then expand in this order:
- More keywords for the same service in the same area.
- The same service in the next-closest area you can serve well.
- A second service, in its own campaign with its own budget.
- Broader match types, only once conversion tracking has a few weeks of clean data.
Should GST and management fees sit inside your ad budget?
Keep three numbers separate: ad spend, GST on that spend, and the management fee with its own GST. Google India bills Indian advertisers 18% GST on ad spend. If your GSTIN is on the billing profile, a registered business can usually claim it as input tax credit, but you still pay it up front, and the credit only comes back when your return is filed. For a business running ads every month, that gap is a real cash-flow cost. Fees from a GST-registered agency carry 18% too.
| Line (hypothetical) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Ad spend | ₹17,500 |
| GST on ad spend at 18% | ₹3,150 |
| Paid to Google before any agency fee | ₹20,650 |
When you compare quotes, ask whether each figure is ad spend, fee or both, and whether GST is included. Our guide to digital marketing cost in India explains how fees and spend usually break down.
When is it time to increase the budget?
When results are steady and the campaign is clearly running out of money, not when one week looks good. Look for all three of these:
- Cost per qualified enquiry has held below your target for at least three or four weeks.
- The "Search lost IS (budget)" column shows you're missing searches because the daily budget runs out.
- Your team can handle more enquiries without slower replies.
Raise the budget in steps of 10–20% and give each step a couple of weeks. And decide Google's share alongside Meta's rather than in isolation; our guide to how to split spend between Meta and Google covers that.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum budget for Google Ads in India?
Google doesn't set one. The practical minimum is whatever buys enough clicks to learn from, which the formula above will tell you. Low-cost local niches can test on a few hundred rupees a day; competitive categories need considerably more.
How much does a click cost on Google Ads in India?
It varies widely by keyword, city and competition, from a few rupees for quiet local searches to far more in categories such as finance, admissions or real estate. Keyword Planner's top-of-page bid ranges for your own location are the best starting estimate.
Is Rs 10,000 a month enough for Google Ads?
It depends on your cost per click. At ₹20 a click, ₹10,000 buys around 500 clicks, a fair local test. At ₹100 a click it buys 100, which is thin. Run the formula with your own keywords before deciding.
Does Google charge GST on ad spend in India?
Yes. Ads billed to Indian advertisers by Google India carry 18% GST. Add your GSTIN to the payments profile so invoices show it, and you can usually claim the GST back as input tax credit.
How long before I know if my Google Ads budget is working?
Tracking and setup problems show up within the first two weeks. For a local service business, about 60 days of tracked enquiries gives a sound verdict; B2B and high-value services with longer sales cycles need longer.
