Quick answer: Digital marketing in India costs two separate things: an agency fee for the work, and the ad spend you pay Meta or Google directly. Ongoing SEO usually starts at ₹15,000 a month, a small-business website runs ₹15,000–₹60,000, and in the Meta accounts we manage, enquiries have cost anywhere from ₹2.72 to ₹423 each. Set your budget from what a lead is worth to you, not from a package price.

"How much does digital marketing cost?" is really four questions: what the website costs, what SEO costs, what someone charges to run your ads, and how much you hand to Meta and Google. Many quotes blend these into one monthly number, which makes them impossible to compare. This guide pulls them apart, using our published price bands and real cost-per-enquiry figures from accounts we run.

What's the difference between the agency fee and ad spend?

The agency fee pays for people's time; ad spend is what the platforms charge to show your ads. They behave differently, so they should always sit on separate lines of a quote.

  • Agency fee (retainer): strategy, tracking setup, campaign builds, creative, testing, reporting and the calls in between. Usually a fixed monthly amount for an agreed scope.
  • Ad spend (media): paid to Meta or Google, ideally charged to your own card inside your own ad account. It rises and falls with your budget.
  • One-off setup: conversion tracking, landing pages, a new website or a creative shoot, usually billed once at the start.

Two checks before you sign. First, fees from a GST-registered agency attract 18% GST, so ask whether the quote includes it. Second, make sure the ad account, pixel and lead data are in your name, with the agency added as a partner; our checklist for choosing a performance marketing agency explains why.

How much does each digital marketing service cost in India?

Websites and SEO have fairly stable price bands. Ads management, social and content are priced on the work involved, and ad spend comes from your own numbers. Here's how the pieces compare.

ServiceTypical cost in India (2026)What moves the price
Small-business website (4–6 pages)₹15,000–₹60,000 one-offTemplate or custom design, copywriting, page count
Custom marketing website (8–15 pages)₹60,000–₹1,50,000 one-offBespoke design, conversion layouts, speed tuning
E-commerce or web-app build₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000+ one-offProducts, payments, booking, CRM and other integrations

Content (guides, service pages)Priced per piece or per monthResearch depth, length, expertise needed
Ad spendYour cost per lead × the leads you needIndustry, offer, creative, season, location

The website is on this list because every other channel sends people to it, and a slow site wastes ad spend and SEO effort alike. Our website cost guide for India breaks those tiers down, and the SEO cost guide for India explains what each level of monthly SEO should include.

How much should you spend on Meta and Google ads in India?

Work it out from your break-even cost per lead, then check the budget is big enough for the platform to learn. A flat "₹X a month" from an agency means little until you know what a lead is worth to you.

Step 1: find your break-even cost per lead

Break-even cost per lead = profit per new customer × lead-to-customer rate

A wedding photographer making ₹40,000 profit per booking, who books one in 25 leads, can pay up to ₹1,600 per lead. An online clothing store making ₹300 on a first order, with one in ten leads buying, can only afford ₹30. Those are illustrative numbers from our guide to what a good cost per lead looks like on Meta in India; swap in your own. Aim to pay about half your break-even so there's margin left.

Step 2: sanity-check against real results

These are lifetime figures from Meta accounts we've managed, using Meta's default attribution (7-day click, 1-day view). An "enquiry" is a WhatsApp, Messenger or Instagram conversation or a lead-form submission.

Business (anonymised)Average cost per enquiryAd spend for 100 enquiries at that rate
Home-improvement (awnings)₹2.72about ₹272
Clothing brand₹5.43about ₹543
GRWW lead generation for photographers₹20.92about ₹2,092
Wedding photography (5 accounts combined)₹58.55about ₹5,855
Wedding photography studio₹62.16about ₹6,216
Interiors business₹423not projectable (only 2 conversations)

These are results from specific offers and creatives, not market averages. The spread is the point: ticket size, ad format and creative move cost per lead far more than the platform does, and a high-ticket purchase like interiors may need stronger proof or a different offer before any budget works.

Step 3: give the platform enough to learn from

Meta's guidance is that each ad set needs roughly 50 optimisation events (leads, if that's what you optimise for) in a week to leave its learning phase. At ₹58.55 per enquiry that's about ₹2,930 a week for one ad set; at ₹5.43 it's about ₹270. You don't have to hit 50 to get results, but the further below it you sit, the noisier your costs will be.

If your budget can't feed one ad set properly, don't split it across two platforms.

Step 4: choose where the money goes first

Put most of the budget where your buyers already are: Google Search if people search with urgency ("AC repair near me"), Meta if the purchase starts with seeing something you like (clothing, décor, wedding photography). Our guide to splitting ad spend between Meta and Google gives starting splits by business type, from 80/20 in Meta's favour for visual purchases to 20/80 towards Google for urgent searches.

What does Meta and Google ads management actually include?

A proper management fee buys tracking, testing and decisions, not just "running ads". Before comparing prices, compare what each agency will do every month.

A sound monthly scope covers:

  • Tracking checked before launch: Meta pixel and Conversions API, Google conversion actions, and lead sources recorded in your CRM.
  • A structure sized to your budget: fewer, better-funded campaigns rather than many starved ones.
  • Creative testing: new hooks, Reels and offers as audiences tire of old ads. In our accounts, Reels often had the highest click-through rates.
  • Lead routing: enquiries reaching your team fast, because slow replies waste paid leads.
  • Reporting on outcomes: qualified leads and sales, not impressions.
  • Measured budget moves: shifting money in 10–20% steps once a difference has held for about two weeks.

Agencies charge for this in four common ways, and each one nudges their incentives differently.

Fee modelHow it worksWatch out for
Fixed monthly retainerFlat fee for an agreed scopeHow many campaigns, creatives and reports are included
Percentage of ad spendFee rises with your budgetAn incentive to push spend up; usually a minimum fee
Pay per leadYou pay for each lead deliveredPressure towards cheap, low-quality leads; who owns the account
HybridBase retainer plus a bonus on agreed outcomes"Qualified" must be defined in writing

Managing both Meta and Google costs more than one, since it doubles the campaigns, tracking and creative; another reason small budgets should start on one platform. See how we scope this on our ads and lead generation service page.

What do social media management and content cost?

Both are priced by output, so compare quotes on exactly what gets made each month. "Social media management" can mean eight static posts or twenty Reels plus daily replies, and the price gap between those is large and fair.

When you're comparing quotes, ask:

  • How many posts, Reels and stories per month, and who shoots the footage?
  • Are replies to comments and DMs included, and how quickly?
  • Can the best organic posts be reused as ad creatives?
  • Is written content meant to rank (guides, service pages) or to engage (captions)? They're different jobs.

Be clear about what organic social does. It builds trust when someone checks your Instagram before enquiring, but for most small businesses it won't produce a steady flow of leads on its own. If leads are the goal, fund ads and SEO first and let social and content support them. For SEO content, a handful of pages that answer the questions buyers actually ask will do more than a weekly stream of thin posts.

What should a business budget at each size?

Smaller budgets need focus: one good website, one ad platform and one clear offer beat a thin spread across everything. Use these structures as a starting point, then let your break-even maths set the rupee amounts.

Business stageWhat to fundHow to structure ads
New business or sole traderSmall-business website (₹15,000–₹60,000), Google Business Profile, trackingOne platform, one or two campaigns
Established small businessWebsite improvements, ongoing SEO (from ₹15,000/month), one main ad platformMain platform gets 75–85%; a small test or retargeting on the second
Growing business with a sales teamCustom website (₹60,000–₹1,50,000), SEO, content, both ad platformsBoth platforms with clear jobs: prospecting on one, search capture or retargeting on the other
Multi-location or e-commerceE-commerce or web-app build (₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000+), SEO across locations, contentFull funnel on both, plus measured tests of Performance Max or Advantage+

At every size, keep a small retargeting slice (often 10–20% of Meta spend), expect steadier numbers only from around month two or three, and judge on cost per customer: a ₹30 lead that never answers costs more than a ₹300 one that books.

How do you tell whether a quote is good value?

Judge a quote by what it measures and who owns the results, not by the monthly figure alone. The lowest quote often costs more later: slow templates, no tracking, no SEO foundation, and a rebuild within a year.

Good signs:

  • Agency fee, ad spend and one-off setup shown separately, with GST stated.
  • Tracking fixed before any money is spent.
  • Reports built around qualified leads and sales, run by a named person.
  • Realistic ranges from similar accounts, including ones that didn't work.

Walk away from:

  • Guarantees of a set number of leads, sales or rankings.
  • Ad accounts the agency owns and you can't access.
  • Lock-ins of six to twelve months before anything is proven.

Frequently asked questions

How much does digital marketing cost per month in India?

It depends on which services you need. Ongoing SEO usually starts at ₹15,000 a month, ads management is a separate fee scoped to the campaigns and creative involved, and ad spend goes on top, paid to Meta or Google. Set the ad spend from your break-even cost per lead rather than picking a round number.

Is ad spend included in an agency's fee?

It shouldn't be blended in. Meta or Google should charge ad spend to your own ad account, and the agency fee should be a separate line. If a quote bundles the two, ask for the split so you can see how much actually reaches the platforms.

Do I need a website before running ads?

Messaging ads can start WhatsApp or Instagram conversations without one, and in our accounts they were usually the cheapest per enquiry. But a website builds trust, underpins SEO and most Google Ads campaigns, and makes tracking far easier. Most businesses need one before they scale.

Should a small business run Meta and Google ads at the same time?

Usually not at first. Splitting a small budget starves both platforms of the data they need to optimise. Start on the platform that matches how your customers buy, then add the second once the first produces qualified leads at a cost you can afford.

Does GST apply to digital marketing services in India?

Yes. Fees from a GST-registered agency attract 18% GST, so check whether a quote is inclusive or exclusive of it. When you budget ad spend, also check how tax appears on your Meta and Google invoices.

How long before digital marketing pays off?

Ads move fastest: expect setup in the first couple of weeks and steadier numbers from around month two or three. SEO takes longer but keeps working once it builds. Judge both on cost per customer, not clicks.
