Quick answer: In 2026, a small-business website in India typically costs ₹15,000–₹60,000, a custom marketing site ₹60,000–₹1,50,000, and an e-commerce store or web app ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000 or more. Add 18% GST to the build, then budget for domain, hosting and maintenance after launch.
These are the typical ranges GRWW sees and quotes against in the Indian market, not fixed prices. Where you land inside a band depends on scope: how many page layouts you need, how custom the design is, who writes the content and what the site has to do. This guide covers what each band buys, what a proper package includes, the costs that arrive after launch, and how to tell an affordable quote from a cheap one.
How much does a website cost in India in 2026?
Most Indian small businesses spend between ₹15,000 and ₹1,50,000 on a website; online stores and sites with logins or bookings start around ₹1,50,000. The table shows typical ranges before GST.
| Site type | Typical price (₹, before GST) | What you usually get | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small-business / brochure site | ₹15,000–₹60,000 | 4–6 mobile-first pages, contact form or WhatsApp button, basic on-page SEO, analytics | Local services, clinics, consultants and shops that need to be found and contacted |
| Custom marketing site | ₹60,000–₹1,50,000 | Custom design, 8–15 pages, copywriting, conversion-focused layouts, Core Web Vitals tuning | Businesses running ads or competing hard for search |
| E-commerce store | ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000+ | Catalogue, cart, checkout, payment gateway, shipping rules, order emails | D2C brands and retailers selling online |
| Web app features | ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000+ | Logins, bookings, client portals or dashboards, CRM and payment integrations | Service businesses that manage customers through the site |
The "+" on the last two rows matters. A store with hundreds of products and custom integrations, or a full software product such as a SaaS platform or marketplace, is priced as software rather than as a website. Our guide to custom software costs in India covers those budgets; an MVP web app there typically runs ₹4–12 lakh.
What actually moves the price?
Three things move the number more than anything else: how many page templates you need, how custom the design and functionality are, and whether marketing is bundled in. A five-page site on a proven layout sits at the bottom of the range; a bespoke design with booking, payments or integrations sits at the top.
In more detail:
- Templates, not just pages. Twenty service pages that share one layout cost far less than ten pages that each need a unique design. Count the distinct layouts when you compare quotes.
- Design approach. Adapting a well-built theme is quicker than designing every screen from scratch. Custom design earns its cost when your brand or conversion goals need it.
- Content. Writing copy, sourcing photos and uploading products takes real hours. If you supply finished content, the price drops; if the agency writes it, expect it to be itemised.
- Functionality. Booking, payments, Hindi or regional-language pages, member logins, WhatsApp integration and CRM syncing each add build and testing time.
- Platform. WordPress, Shopify and frameworks such as Next.js suit different jobs. The right one depends on how you'll edit the site and what it must connect to, not on fashion.
- Marketing on top. Ongoing SEO usually starts around ₹15,000 a month, and ad management is quoted separately from your ad spend.
What's included in a professional website package?
A professional package covers design, build, launch and handover, and says in writing what's excluded. Here's what to expect at each level:
- Entry (₹15,000–₹60,000): a fast, mobile-first 4–6 page site, basic on-page SEO, a contact form or WhatsApp button, and analytics.
- Mid (₹60,000–₹1,50,000): custom design, 8–15 pages, copywriting, conversion-focused layouts and Core Web Vitals tuning.
- Premium (₹1,50,000+): a bespoke build, a CMS your team can use, integrations such as CRM, payments or booking, and a marketing plan behind it.
Whatever the price, these should be standard:
- Responsive design tested on real phones, since many of your visitors will arrive on one
- An SSL certificate, so the site loads over HTTPS
- Page titles, meta descriptions, a clean heading structure, an XML sitemap and Google Search Console set up
- Analytics that track enquiries (form submissions, calls, WhatsApp clicks), not just page views
- Basic accessibility: readable contrast, image alt text and forms that work with a keyboard
- A way for you to edit content, plus a walkthrough at handover
- Domain, hosting and admin logins in your name
- A defined period after launch when bugs are fixed at no charge
Commonly excluded unless stated: logo and branding, professional photography, product uploads beyond a set number, premium plugin or app licences, hosting and business email.
How much does an e-commerce website cost in India?
A properly built online store in India typically costs ₹1,50,000–₹3,00,000 or more, depending on catalogue size, platform and integrations. The platform you choose also shapes your running costs.
- Shopify is hosted for you and quick to launch. You pay a monthly plan, many useful features come from paid apps, and depending on your plan and payment gateway there may be a transaction fee on top of the gateway's own charges.
- WooCommerce is a free plugin for WordPress. You pay for hosting, premium extensions and upkeep, but you get more control over the store and its data.
- Custom or headless builds make sense for larger brands with unusual checkout, pricing or catalogue needs. Read when to move from Shopify to custom before committing to one.
What pushes an Indian store towards the top of the band: large catalogues with many variants, cash-on-delivery rules, a payment gateway such as Razorpay, PayU or Cashfree, shipping-aggregator integration, GST-compliant invoices and WhatsApp order updates. Budget separately for product photography and for the gateway's per-transaction fees, which you pay on every sale.
What hidden and ongoing costs should you budget for?
The build quote is the biggest number, but not the only one. Plan for these from day one:
- GST at 18%. GST-registered agencies add 18% to web design invoices, so a ₹60,000 quote becomes ₹70,800. If your business is GST-registered, you can usually claim this as input tax credit; confirm with your CA. A freelancer below the registration threshold may not charge GST at all, which is one reason quotes can look so different.
- Domain. Renewed every year. Register it in your own name and check the renewal price, which is often higher than the first-year offer.
- Hosting. Good shared hosting suits a small brochure site; stores and busier sites need managed or cloud hosting, which costs more.
- Business email. Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 are billed per user, per month.
- Licences. Premium themes, plugins and Shopify apps often renew monthly or annually.
- Maintenance. Updates, backups, security patches and small edits. As a rule of thumb, set aside 10–20% of the build cost a year for a typical site; stores and web apps sit higher.
- Marketing. SEO from around ₹15,000 a month, plus ad spend and management if you run Google or Meta campaigns. Our ads and leads service explains how we track that spend to real enquiries.
Cheap vs affordable: what's the real difference?
A cheap website has a low price; an affordable website has a low total cost. The lowest quote often moves the expense to later: a slow template, no SEO foundation, and a rebuild within a year.
| Cheap website | Affordable website | |
|---|---|---|
| Price logic | Lowest number, scope undefined | Scope sized to your budget and goals |
| Speed | Heavy theme, slow on mobile data | Built and tested for mobile speed |
| SEO | Missing titles, no sitemap, no Search Console | On-page SEO and tracking set up at launch |
| Ownership | Domain or hosting held by the vendor | Domain, hosting and logins in your name |
| Software | Pirated ("nulled") themes or plugins | Licensed components that receive updates |
| After launch | No support, or a vague "lifetime" promise | A defined bug-fix period and an optional care plan |
| Likely outcome | Rebuilt within a year or two | Improved and extended over time |
Affordable doesn't have to mean expensive. A ₹30,000 five-page site can be excellent value if it loads fast, ranks for your service and turns visitors into calls. The test is whether it brings in enquiries, not how it looks on launch day.
What should a startup budget for its first website?
Most startups should spend less on the first site than they expect and keep money aside for testing their message. Your website will change as you learn who buys and why.
- Pre-launch or validating an idea: a focused small site or landing page in the ₹15,000–₹60,000 band, with one clear offer, a waitlist or demo booking, and analytics.
- Selling to businesses or raising funds: a custom marketing site in the ₹60,000–₹1,50,000 band, with product pages, proof, a blog and proper tracking.
- The product itself: if you're building a SaaS app, that's a separate software budget. Our explainer on web apps vs websites vs mobile apps helps you decide what to build first.
Choose a platform you can edit without a developer, and plan a second iteration once you have a few months of real data.
How do you compare website quotes?
Compare scope line by line before you compare price. Two quotes for "a 10-page website" can describe very different projects. Ask each supplier to confirm:
- The number of pages and distinct layouts
- Who writes the copy and supplies the photos
- How many rounds of design revisions are included
- The platform, any paid themes, plugins or apps, and who holds the licences
- Exactly what SEO set-up is included
- Whether the price includes 18% GST
- Who registers the domain and hosting, and in whose name
- When the site and its code become yours
- The post-launch support period and the monthly care plan price, if any
- The timeline and payment milestones
What are the red flags in a website quote?
Be wary when the price arrives before the questions. Watch for:
- A quote with no written scope or page list
- Full payment demanded upfront rather than in milestones
- The domain registered in the agency's name
- Guaranteed first-page or "number one" Google rankings
- No live sites you can open and test on your phone
- "Unlimited pages and revisions" at the bottom of the market
- No mention of speed, analytics or SEO set-up
- Reluctance to hand over admin access once you've paid
How does GRWW price a website?
We scope to outcomes: what the site needs to do, whether that's booking calls, selling products or generating leads. After a free call, we send a fixed price, usually within one business day, so the number you sign is the number you pay unless the scope changes. You approve designs before we build, most sites go live in 1–4 weeks, and on full payment the website transfers to you. Care plans are optional and month-to-month. Frequently asked questions
Can I get a decent website for under ₹15,000?
You can get something online, usually a DIY builder site or a lightly customised template. That can be fine while you test an idea. For a business that relies on Google and enquiries, the ₹15,000–₹60,000 band is where you get proper speed, SEO set-up and tracking.
Is GST included in website quotes in India?
Often not. Many agencies quote before GST and add 18% on the invoice, so always ask. If you're GST-registered, you can usually claim it back as input tax credit.
Should I choose Shopify or WooCommerce in India?
Shopify suits brands that want to launch quickly without managing a server. WooCommerce suits businesses that want more control or already run WordPress. Compare the total yearly running cost, including apps, extensions, hosting and transaction fees, not just the build price.
How long does it take to build a website?
Most small-business and marketing sites go live in 1–4 weeks, depending on page count and how quickly content is ready. E-commerce stores and sites with web app features take longer because of integrations and testing.
Do I own my website once it's built?
You should. Make sure the domain, hosting account, admin logins and content are in your name, and that the contract says when the site transfers to you. With GRWW, that happens on full payment.
How much does website maintenance cost in India?
For a typical small-business site, plan on roughly 10–20% of the build cost a year for updates, backups, security and small edits. Stores and sites with logins or bookings need more, because there is more to keep working.
