Quick answer: Give every staffed branch its own Google Business Profile, linked to its own location page rather than the homepage. Make each page genuinely branch-specific, keep the brand name and PIN-coded address format identical everywhere, collect reviews per branch, and tag each profile's website link so you can see which location brings the calls.

Think of a dental chain with clinics in Baner, Kothrud and Wakad, or a coaching institute with six centres across Patna. On Google Maps, each branch fights its own battle against the businesses near it, not against your other branches. Most local SEO advice assumes a single shop with a single address. This guide covers what changes when you have several, and the mistakes chains make most often: one profile standing in for every branch, copy-paste location pages, and branch names that differ on every platform.

Does each branch need its own Google Business Profile?

Yes, if the branch is staffed and serves customers in person during stated hours. Each qualifying location gets its own profile, its own phone number where possible, and a website link to its own page.

Set-upOwn profile?

Franchise outletYes, with ownership agreed between franchisor and franchisee
Diagnostic collection centre with staff and opening hoursYes, if customers visit it

Manage all profiles from one business group owned by a company Google account, not a branch manager's personal Gmail. Add managers per branch so they can reply to reviews and update hours, while ownership stays with the business. Our Google Business Profile checklist covers the field-by-field set-up for each profile.

How should location pages differ so they are not duplicates?

Each page should contain things that are only true of that branch. Swapping the area name into an identical template creates near-duplicate pages that rarely rank and don't help anyone find the door.

What counts as branch-specific depends on the trade. A clinic chain can list which specialists consult at each branch and on which days. A coaching institute can show batch timings, the faculty who teach there and the nearest hostel or PG options. A salon can name its stylists and the services only some branches offer, and a showroom can list the brands, models or sizes in stock at that location. These details answer real questions, and they're impossible to copy from one page to the next.

Add LocalBusiness structured data on each page with that branch's name, address, phone, hours and coordinates. Our guide to LocalBusiness schema explains which properties matter. Then link every branch from a single locations page, ideally with a map, so both visitors and Google can reach each one in a click.

How do you name branches and write addresses consistently?

Use your real-world brand name everywhere and one fixed address format per branch.

Google's guidelines ask for the name customers see on your signage and stationery. Adding keywords ("Best Dental Clinic") or locality descriptors that aren't part of that real-world name can get a profile suspended. Put the area name in the address, the page title and the page content instead.

For addresses, choose one order and never vary it: shop or flat number, floor, building, street, area, city, PIN code, state. Always include the PIN code. Indian navigation relies on landmarks, so put "opposite the bus depot" in the directions section of the page and in the profile description, not crammed into the address line.

Keep a master record per branch, a simple spreadsheet the whole team uses as the source of truth:

  • Brand name exactly as on signage
  • Full address in the agreed order, with PIN code
  • Branch phone number and WhatsApp number
  • Opening hours and holiday hours
  • Primary category
  • Location page URL, with tracking parameters for the profile link
  • Branch manager responsible for the profile

Copy from this record whenever you create or update a listing anywhere. Our list of business listing sites in India covers where else those details should appear.

How does bulk verification work for ten or more locations?

If you manage ten or more locations of the same business, you can ask Google to verify them in bulk instead of one by one.

The broad steps:

  1. Create a business group in Business Profile Manager under a company account.
  2. Add every location, either individually or with Google's bulk upload spreadsheet.
  3. Check that each location's name, address, category and hours follow Google's guidelines; inconsistencies slow review.
  4. Submit the bulk verification request with your company details and a contact who can answer Google's questions.
  5. Wait for Google's review, then add new branches to the same group as they open.

Chains with fewer than ten locations verify each profile individually, using whichever method Google offers, often a video recording that shows the signage, the premises and proof of management.

Verification isn't permanent. Changing a branch's name, address or category can send a profile back for review, so plan edits rather than making them casually, and make one person responsible for approving them. When a branch moves, update the existing profile's address rather than creating a new profile, so its reviews and history move with it.

How do you collect and answer reviews per branch?

Make asking for reviews part of each branch's routine, and give every branch its own link.

  • One QR code per branch. Generate it from that profile's own review link and put it at the reception desk, on bills and in the after-visit WhatsApp message. A single chain-wide QR code piles every review onto one profile.
  • Ask everyone, consistently. Don't offer discounts for reviews or ask only happy customers; both break Google's policies.
  • Run a reply rota. The branch manager drafts replies within two working days, and someone central checks tone for negative ones.
  • Review the numbers monthly. New reviews, average rating and unanswered reviews per branch, side by side.

Reviews are one of the signals Google weighs for local results, so a branch that lags on them often lags on Maps too. Reviews also feed how assistants describe you; our guide to local businesses in AI search explains why.

How do you track which branch gets the calls and visits?

Tag each profile's website link, give each branch its own number, and read the results side by side.

  • Tracking parameters on profile links. Use the branch name in the link, for example ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp&utm_content=kothrud. GA4 then shows visits and enquiries per branch.
  • Profile performance data. Each profile reports calls, website clicks, direction requests and bookings.
  • Separate phone and WhatsApp numbers. A pre-filled WhatsApp message such as "Hi, I'm contacting the Wakad branch" helps when numbers are shared.
  • A monthly branch table. Calls, direction requests, website enquiries and new reviews for each location in one view.

The table quickly shows patterns: a salon branch with many direction requests but few calls may need better photos and hours; a showroom with strong calls but few reviews needs a better asking routine. The SEO basics for service businesses still apply to every branch page.

Frequently asked questions

Can one business have several Google Business Profiles?

Yes, one for each staffed location that customers visit during stated hours. Profiles for virtual offices or unstaffed addresses break Google's guidelines and risk suspension.

Should each branch have its own page on my website?

Yes. Link each profile to a page with that branch's address, team, photos, directions, hours and reviews. Linking every profile to the homepage wastes the chance to rank each branch for its own area.

How do I verify ten or more locations on Google?

Add them to a business group in Business Profile Manager and submit a bulk verification request. Make sure every location follows Google's naming and address guidelines first, because errors slow down review.

Can two branches share one phone number?

They can, but it weakens tracking and Google prefers a number that reaches the individual location. A separate number per branch, even a mobile, makes calls easier to attribute and answer.

Should branch names include the area name?

Generally not, unless the area is part of the name on your actual signage. Use your brand name on every profile and let the address, location page and content carry the area.
